A letter from Principal LeCompte

Dear Mountain Way Elementary Families, Students, and Community,

It is with great joy and excitement that I greet and welcome you to Mountain Way Elementary. Whether you are a familiar face or joining our school family for the first time, please know that I am thrilled to be on this journey with you. Our school is a truly special place, and I am honored to lead a building where our youngest learners are at the center of everything we do.

My journey as an educator has always centered on creating spaces where kids feel safe, loved, and excited to learn. I have been blessed to serve young and complex learners for three decades, and I still find the greatest joy in watching a student experience that magical "aha!" moment. I chose Mountain Way because of its warm community and its vital focus on early learning. When I'm away from school, you can usually find me camping, fishing, or exploring the outdoors with my husband and our dog, Charlie.

At Mountain Way, we are committed to the individual development of each student. We welcome all children and their unique talents, providing experiences that support their growth both socially and academically. We are dedicated to working closely with you to ensure our school remains a safe, nurturing environment where every child's needs are met. We will live out our district's vision daily, ensuring our students begin school ready to learn within a strong system of support and emerge as resilient, engaged citizens. As we partner this year, we will wholeheartedly embrace our district motto: Every Student. Every Day. Future Ready.

Mountain Way fosters a collaborative, inclusive culture built on our CUBS values: Cooperation, Understanding, Bravery, and Safety. We focus on powerful teaching and learning through rigorous instruction, while nurturing a school climate of mutual respect, positive behavior, and life-skills growth. By practicing these core values daily, we strive to create spaces where all students build the foundational skills to become confident mathematicians, readers, writers, and active members of the Granite Falls community.

You can expect our staff to remain deeply committed to your child’s academic achievement and overall well-being. Because we cannot do this important work alone, we highly value active partnership with our families. To ensure every learner has the tools and opportunities they need to thrive, we are proud to offer a well-rounded experience that includes PE, Music, and STEAM, along with robust support systems such as counseling, special education, and multilingual services.

We invite you to be an active part of our school community, as your involvement makes a meaningful difference. You can get involved by joining our Booster Club, volunteering, or attending our family events. For practical information—including our school calendar, student handbook, registration details, and staff directory—please explore the resources available here on our website.

My door is always open. Please feel free to reach out with questions, ideas, or just to say hello. You can contact me via email or phone, or stop by the front office during office hours. We value open communication and look forward to partnering with you.

Let's make it a fantastic school year for all of our Tiger Cubs!

In partnership,

Libby LeCompte
